Full description:
George S. Clason ran the Clason Map Company in Denver and published the first road atlas of the United States and Canada. In 1926 he began issuing pamphlets on thrift and financial success, each built around a parable set in ancient Babylon. Banks and insurance companies handed them out in large numbers, and the best-known of them gave the collected book its title.
The central story follows Arkad, a poor scribe who becomes the richest man in Babylon, and the book uses his story and other tales to explain how money is earned, kept and put to work.
The chapters include “The Gold Lender of Babylon,” “The Walls of Babylon,” “The Camel Trader of Babylon” and the closing “The Luckiest Man in Babylon.” Because the lessons come as short stories rather than instructions, the book reads quickly.
Nearly a century on, it is still widely read as an introduction to personal finance, and Tony Robbins has recommended it in his book Money: Master the Game. This paperback edition runs 168 pages.
Notable: The parables first circulated in 1926 as pamphlets on thrift, distributed by banks and insurance companies, before being collected as a book.
