The Support Literacy in Kenya is an initiative that helps schools, churches, families, and communities access affordable books through donations, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
Support Literacy in Kenya Mission
At Books Point Bookstore, we believe that every child, every family, and every community in Kenya deserves access to books — not someday, but today.
We started as a used bookstore in Ruaka, Kenya, selling affordable fiction, non-fiction, children, and teen books to readers who love stories but also watch their budgets. Over time, we saw something that we could not ignore: there are thousands of communities across Kenya where books are simply out of reach.
Not because people don’t want to read — but because no one has made it easy enough, or affordable enough, to get books into their hands.
That is why we created Support Literacy in Kenya — our community initiative to redistribute the power of reading to schools, churches, families, and underserved communities across the country.
We are not a charity. We are a literacy movement — driven by a simple belief that a book in the right hands at the right time can change the direction of a life.
We invite you to be part of that change.
What We Do at Support Literacy in Kenya
Everything we do under Support Literacy in Kenya comes down to one goal: putting the right books into the hands of people who need them most.
Here is how we do it:
📦 Sponsored Literacy Bales We work with donors, organizations, and well-wishers to source and supply wholesale book packages via our bookstore — starting from 100 books — that go directly to schools, churches, and families.
📚 Book Donation Collection We collect gently used books from individuals and organizations, sort them, and redistribute them to communities where they will have the greatest impact.
🔄 Book Redistribution & Exchange We make sure every donated book finds the right home — even if that means responsibly swapping or redirecting books to communities where they are most needed.
💵 Financial Contributions We accept money donations that go toward sourcing books, sorting, transport, packaging, and community distribution drives.
🤝 Community Partnerships We partner with churches, schools, corporates, NGOs, and volunteers to organize reading drives, distribution events, and literacy campaigns across Kenya.
📖 Reading Culture Promotion We actively promote the habit of reading among children, teens, and families — because access to books is only the beginning.
Sponsor a Literacy Bale at Support Literacy in Kenya Initiative
This is the heart of what we do — and the most powerful way you can support literacy in Kenya.
We source quality used books in bulk. We sort them, curate them by category and age group, and package them into bales that go directly to communities in need. When you sponsor a bale, you are not just donating books — you are funding an entire reading experience for a school classroom, a church youth group, or a family that has never owned a bookshelf.
How It Works
We work closely with every sponsor to understand where they want their books to go and what kind of books they want to give. You choose the category — we handle the sourcing, curation, and delivery.
Minimum Sponsored Package: 100 Books
You can choose from the following categories — or mix and match:
- Children’s storybooks
- Teen & young adult fiction
- Fiction novels
- Non-fiction & educational books
- Christian & inspirational books
- Mixed community reading packages
Sponsorship Tiers
| Package | Books | Impact |
| Starter Bale | 100 books | Supports a family literacy program or small reading corner |
| Community Bale | 250 books | Supports a church youth group or classroom reading initiative |
| School Bale | 500 books | Equips a school library or full community reading project |
| Partner Bale | 1,000+ books | Funds a large-scale community or regional literacy drive |
Pricing is available upon request. We keep our wholesale rates as affordable as possible so that your money goes as far as possible.

Donate Books For Support Literacy in Kenya Initiative
If you have books sitting on your shelves that you have already read — or that your children have outgrown — we would love to give them a second life.
We accept gently used books across all categories:
- Children’s storybooks and picture books
- Teen and young adult fiction
- Fiction novels
- Non-fiction books
- Christian and inspirational books
- Educational books and dictionaries
- Inspirational and self-help titles
What condition should donated books be in?
We ask that donated books are:
- Clean and readable
- Free from heavy water damage or torn pages
- Not missing significant sections
- In a condition you would be happy to pass on to a friend
We understand that used books carry a little wear — and that is perfectly fine. What matters is that the content is accessible and the reading experience is intact.
How to Donate Books
Donating is simple. You can drop off your books directly at Books Point Bookstore in Ruaka, Kiambu County. If you have a large quantity and need help with collection, reach out to us and we will do our best to arrange a pickup depending on your location.

Book Redistribution & Exchange Policy
We want to be fully transparent with you about how we handle donated books — because we think honesty builds better partnerships.
When you donate books to Support Literacy in Kenya, our first priority is always to get those books to a community where they will be genuinely used and valued. However, the reality of community work is that different schools, churches, and families have different needs at different times.
A primary school in Kiambu may urgently need children’s storybooks. A church youth group in Githurai may need teen fiction. A family literacy program in Ruaka may need a mix of everything. The needs shift constantly — and we need the flexibility to respond to them.
For this reason, some donated books may be exchanged, redirected, bundled differently, or redistributed based on:
- Age suitability and reading level
- Community needs at the time of distribution
- Language and curriculum relevance
- Condition of the books
- The specific focus of an active literacy project
Where appropriate, donated books may be responsibly swapped or redistributed — including exchanged for titles that better serve the target beneficiaries of a current project.
We want to assure every donor that this policy exists for one reason only: to maximize the literacy impact of every single book that comes through our doors. No donated book is wasted. Every title finds a home where it will be read and appreciated.
If you have a specific community or school in mind for your donation, please let us know and we will do everything we can to honor that request.
Financial Contributions
Not everyone has books to donate — and that is completely fine. A financial contribution is just as powerful, because it allows us to source the right books, transport them to the right places, and sustain the initiative long term.
Your financial support helps us:
- Source affordable used books in bulk for communities that need them
- Transport and deliver book bales to schools, churches, and families
- Sort, package, and prepare book donations for distribution
- Organize community reading drives and literacy events
- Reach communities outside Nairobi and in rural areas
- Keep the initiative growing and sustainable
Every contribution matters — whether it is a one-off gift or a recurring commitment. We use every shilling intentionally and we are committed to showing you exactly where your money goes.
How to Send a Financial Contribution
We currently accept contributions via:
- M-Pesa — (Paybill/Till details coming soon)
- Bank Transfer — (Details available upon request)
- Direct sponsorship — contact us to arrange payment for a specific bale or project
If you are donating from outside Kenya — from the USA, the UK, South Africa, Canada, Australia, Germany, the UAE, or elsewhere — please reach out to us directly and we will provide the most convenient transfer options for your location.

Communities We Serve at Support Literacy in Kenya
We channel every book and every shilling through trusted community structures — reaching people where they already gather, learn, and grow together.
🏫 Schools: We work with primary and secondary schools to stock classroom reading corners and small school libraries. Many schools in Kenya — particularly in informal settlements and rural areas — have almost no reading materials beyond textbooks. We want to change that, one bale at a time.
⛪ Churches: Local churches are among the most trusted institutions in Kenyan communities. We partner with church leaders to distribute books through Sunday school programs, youth ministries, and family literacy initiatives. A church that reads together builds stronger families and stronger communities.
🏡 Families: We believe that reading starts at home. We work to put books directly into the hands of parents and children — helping families build a home reading culture that lasts across generations. When a parent reads to a child, that child is more likely to become a reader for life.
📚 Community Reading Spaces: And yes, we support small community libraries, reading corners, and local literacy initiatives wherever they exist — and wherever we can help build them.
Support Literacy in Kenya Impact & Transparency
We take accountability seriously — because we know that trust is earned, not assumed.
When you sponsor a bale, donate books, or contribute financially to Support Literacy in Kenya, here is what you can expect from us:
- We document every distribution — recording where books go, how many were delivered, and who received them
- We share updates, photos, and stories from the communities we serve
- And yes, we are open about how funds are used and what each contribution achieves
- We also welcome questions, feedback, and site visits from donors and partners who want to see the work firsthand
We are building this initiative from the ground up — which means we are growing our impact story in real time. Every distribution we complete, every school we supply, every family we reach becomes part of a growing record of what your support has made possible.
As we grow, this section will be filled with photos, testimonials, and impact numbers from real projects across Kenya. We want you to be able to look at this page and say: I was part of that.

Join the Support Literacy in Kenya Movement
A single book can spark a lifelong love of reading. A sponsored bale can transform a classroom. A community that reads is a community that grows.
We started Support Literacy in Kenya because we believe that the books already sitting on shelves across this country — and across the world — hold enough knowledge, imagination, and possibility to change thousands of lives. They just need to find the right hands.
