Synopsis: In the Origin book, a billionaire futurist claims he’s found the answer to two of humanity’s oldest questions, and he’s about to reveal it to the world. Then he’s murdered minutes before the announcement, and Robert Langdon has to finish what he started.
Edmond Kirsch made his fortune predicting the future, and he’s convinced he’s just solved two questions that have outlasted every religion and philosophy ever built around them: where do we come from, and where are we going. He calls Robert Langdon to a private event in Bilbao to witness the reveal, promising it will change how humanity understands itself. He’s shot dead minutes before he can share it, and the discovery goes missing along with him.
Langdon, along with the museum director who helped organize the event, has to work out what Kirsch found and get it in front of the public before the people who killed him can bury it for good.
The chase runs through Barcelona and beyond, tangled up with a religious opposition Kirsch expected and an AI assistant he built to help him, which turns out to know more than anyone realized.
By book five, Brown is pointing Langdon’s usual method, art and symbols and hidden history, at something closer to the present than the past. It’s less about what was covered up centuries ago and more about who gets to decide what people are told right now.
